Academic Performance

Unsatisfactory academic performance is defined by the Academy in accordance with Australian Government standards. Your academic progress will be recorded on a regular basis. Should your progress become a matter of concern to the Academy, you will be required to attend an interview with the Director of Studies and the Student Services Officer to identify issues related to your poor course progression. At this interview you are required to present evidence to support why you are not progressing in your course, which must be compassionate or compelling reasons approved by the Academy. Upon completion of this interview, you will be required to sign an agreement that you acknowledge the intervention strategies presented to rectify the situation which will include learning and/or counselling support, or to undertake other commitments required by the Academy.

What will happen if I do not perform well academically?
If your academic performance becomes a concern, the person/persons responsible for paying your tuition fees will be notified as well as your parents or guardians if you are under 18 years of age to help support your progress. Additional fees will apply where you exceed your expected duration of study. International students must ensure they complete the course within the duration specified in their Confirmation of Enrolments.

An intervention strategy will be put in place to assist you to achieve satisfactory course progress where compassionate or compelling reasons have been presented and approved by the Academy. For international students, where no evidence has been presented to support your poor academic performance, a ‘show cause’ letter will be issued to you notifying you in writing intention to report you for not achieving satisfactory course progress to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Students may wish to appeal the decision in writing within 20 working days.

If international students continue not to meet academic progress after signing the agreement and receiving a 'show cause' letter, the Academy must report your poor academic performance to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Where the student has not chosen not to access the complaints and appeals processes within the 20 working day period, withdraws from the process, or the process is completed and results in a decision supporting Pivot Point, you will be required to attend an interview at DIAC with photographic identification within 28 days of the report being sent to your last known address in Australia. Your visa may be cancelled as a result of this interview.
